Funding amount
Funding is scaled to offer eligible applicants with a lower risk of wildfire to apply for up to $25,000 per year. Applicants with a demonstrated higher risk of wildfire can apply for up to $150,000 per year.
About
Administered through the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) with an initial investment of $60M, this program is available to local authorities, including First Nations, to deliver FireSmartâ„¢ activities as supported by the BC FireSmart Committee.
Highlights of the program include:
100% funding of up to $150,000 across a suite of FireSmart activities.
Regional, multi-jurisdictional applications are encouraged
Incentives have been added to undertake FireSmart activities on private land.
Funding opportunities are available for fuel management projects on First Nation reserves.

Technical reviews and prioritization of FCFS applications are done by a committee made up of UBCM, Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (FLNRORD), Forest Enhancement Society of BC, and First Nations Emergency Services Society (FNESS) staff with final approval by the BC FireSmart Committee.

Funding permitting, eligible applicants may submit one application between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2025.

Step 1 | Online Application Form
This online form must be completed for all applications to LGPS funding programs and includes questions that are common to all grant applications. When the LGPS Online Application Form is submitted, the applicant will receive an email confirmation including the file number that has been assigned to the application and a copy of the Application Worksheet that must be completed as part of Step 2.

This worksheet contains questions that are specific to the funding stream and must be submitted by email to UBCM with all other required attachments.

Refer to the Program and Application Guide for any additional information on the application process, worksheet questions and the documents that will be required to be submitted during each step or contact us for further information at cri@ubcm.ca.
A sample worksheet can be provided for internal use by applicants only in order to prepare for submission using the LGPS Online Application Tool. Contact cri@ubcm.ca for a sample of the Application Worksheet. Do not submit this sample worksheet to UBCM.
