About
British Columbians understand the importance of enhancing public safety through crime prevention. They also know the value of programs that help the groups most at risk of becoming involved in crime, and of restorative justice processes that address the needs of victims and communities while holding offenders accountable for the harm they cause.
The Community Safety and Crime Prevention Branch leads the development of crime prevention strategies and programs in British Columbia to help build and maintain safe communities. The branch works in partnership with community groups, schools, youth groups, businesses, service organizations, police, other governments, and other organizations to address crime prevention in the following areas:
Preventing Youth Involvement in Gangs
Preventing Sexual Exploitation of Children and Youth
Restorative Justice
Taking Action to Respond to the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls
A community is safest when everyone works together and supports activities that reduce crime, violence and victimization. Every resident and every organization can make a difference.
